Dr O’Regan is on the Irish Medical Council’s Specialist Register.

He cares for patients with a wide range of eye problems, with particular expertise in:

  • Age related macular generation

  • Retinal vascular disease

  • Diabetic eye disease

  • Glaucoma

  • Ocular hypertension

  • Ocular inflammation

  • General ophthalmology

Originally from Limerick, Dr O’Regan first completed an undergraduate degree and a master’s degree at Trinity College Dublin, before moving on to study medicine at the University of Limerick Graduate Entry Medical School in 2011 where he graduated with first class honours.

He then worked for two years in acute hospital medicine, gaining broad clinical experience before beginning six years of specialist ophthalmology training through the Irish College of Ophthalmologists National Clinical Training Programme.

His training included experience in many of Ireland’s leading teaching hospitals, including:

  • Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital Dublin

  • Mater Hospital Dublin

  • Temple Street Children’s Hospital

  • University Hospital Galway

  • University Hospital Limerick

Training

Fellowship and Post Fellowship Specialisation

After completing Higher Specialist Training with the Irish College of Ophthalmologists, Dr O’Regan undertook a Fellowship in Medical Retina and Uveitis at Bristol Eye Hospital, one of the UK’s top centres.


Here he gained advanced expertise in managing complex retinal and inflammatory eye diseases, intravitreal injections, and laser treatments. In 2025 he was awarded the Fellowship of the European Board of Ophthalmology in Retina (FEBOS-R), following the European sub-specialist examination at the EURETINA congress in Paris.
